Being married IS different.
- Marriage is a firm legal relationship. Partners are confident enough to want to make a binding contract to protect themselves and their off-spring from fleeting desires to move on.
- Marriage is a public relationship. Two people come together and declare their love and make promises before their family and friends (and God?). They are publically celebrating their relationship and committing themselves to it.
- Marriage has clear boundaries. There is a fixed beginning and ending with a clear intention of duration for life.
When getting married many couples are saying that they feel excited and confident about their relationship. They want to celebrate it openly and put it within a legal framework because it is so important and worthwhile.
Any pre-marriage preparation is a way of showing that you recognise the importance of what you are starting out on.
